“Do you see that squirrel over there? It‘s not real. The eyes…” Charlotte said softly.

“Yeah, I know.” Jack said. He was three steps below her on the flight and he paused to look back at her. “The way the legs move just doesn’t look natural. Maybe the summer heat is causing these things to malfunction, or maybe this ‘Order’ you mentioned is not as technologically advanced as they would like everyone to believe.”

“I don’t know about that-”

“Listen,” Jack said. “When I ripped the head off of the Sentry- Sure, I was pissed and my blood was boiling- But the head popped off with little effort and there were only a few wires connecting it to the body. You saw how simpleminded those things were! After they failed to keep us in a trance with their sound weapons it was game over!”

“True, but there are many more violent and dangerous aspects of this system than you realize.”

Jack shrugged. “Still not scared.” He said. “So they have cameras and God knows what else pointed in all directions- Spying on every aspect of life so thoroughly that an alarm goes off when someone has an independent thought!”

They reached ground level and Jack led the way down the narrow path on the side of the building.

“And just look around you!” He shouted. “Where are all of the cowards in this neighborhood? Huddled in front of the cold glow of their television screens? This has all caused the people to act no differently than the mindless robots we demolished!”
