Jack closed the journal and placed it upon the coffee table. He had only read a few entries near the beginning of the book and already his head was swimming- He was trying to grasp how different his life had been on this version of the planet, and he could not explain why the words seemed to conjure up vague images in his mind.

So many unanswered questions… Jack thought. He walked to the front door and opened it.

Maybe getting some fresh air would be a good idea.

He sat down on the front porch and was enjoying the first drag of a cigarette when he realized that the strange figure that had been hiding in the shadows across the street had returned.

“What is going on here?” Jack muttered under his breath.

Chills ran up his spine as he was again struck by the impression that the figure was not exactly human. He had been so focused on scouring the condo for clues and with reading the journal that he had almost forgotten about this thing watching him.

The dark figure took a few steps forward and Jack was able to get a better look at its face- It was composed of what appeared to be hundreds of small metallic cubes that made the face look scrambled, almost featureless.

I was right! Jack thought. It is some sort of robot or android!

The thing tilted its gaze up to stare directly at Jack and, as if on cue, a high-pitched ringing squealed in his ear. The sound seemed to drown out all thought. He tossed the cigarette and crawled back toward the door.

    1. Thank you, Mobius Faith! Yes, he certainly is very pixilated- This whole scene will make more sense later in the tale, when more is explained… Thanks for reading and have a great one!
